About Makara Wear
Makara Wear is a Bali-based, Europe-rooted sustainable swimwear and apparel label built for women who live in and out of the water. Their signature swim line is made from ECONYL®, a regenerated nylon spun from reclaimed ocean plastic and fishing nets, and the brand has built a loyal following inside the international free-diving and watersports community. Alongside swimwear, Makara runs an organic cotton line produced locally in Java and a limited-run silk and satin line made from upcycled deadstock fabric — small-batch, low-waste production by design, not as a marketing afterthought.
That sustainability-first model is exactly why organic search matters so much to this brand: their customer is actively searching for ethical, recycled, and slow-fashion alternatives, and showing up in those searches is worth more to Makara than almost any paid channel.
The Challenge
Makara Wear’s organic search performance wasn’t matching the strength of the brand or the catalog. Going in, we identified:
- A catalog of meta titles and descriptions that were either missing, default, or duplicated across product pages — actively suppressing click-through from search results that were already ranking.
- A sharp, unexplained drop in organic visibility traced back to a URL structure change on one of the site’s highest-traffic collections, quietly bleeding rankings and equity the brand had already earned.
- Collection-level SEO fundamentals (titles, structure) that hadn’t been built out to match how shoppers actually search for sustainable swimwear and apparel.
