About HUWA – Café, Bar, Restaurant

HUWA is one of Leipzig’s most established hospitality venues — a café, bar, restaurant, and living room rolled into one, located at Barfußgässchen 15 in the heart of the city. Founded over 25 years ago as a colorful, chaotic Gasthaus, it has grown alongside its guests into something more refined: two floors of light-filled spaces, an open kitchen concept, a cocktail bar, a spacious outdoor lounge, and a full events program spanning private celebrations, live music, readings, and corporate dinners. The brand’s identity is built around connection, character, and a genuine sense of place — the kind of venue Leipzig locals feel ownership over.

The Challenge

A venue with 25 years of history and a loyal following deserves a website that reflects that standing. The previous digital presence didn’t. Going in, the core challenges were:

  • No structured page architecture to support HUWA’s full range of offerings — food menu, drinks, events, private bookings, careers, and an interactive experience concept all needed their own dedicated space, not a single cluttered homepage.
  • No SEO foundation in place — no on-page optimization, no structured metadata, no Google Search Console setup, nothing telling search engines what this business was or where it operated.
  • No online reservation flow, meaning potential guests had to call or visit to book — a direct conversion barrier for a venue competing in a market where diners increasingly book on the spot from a phone.

What We Did

Web Design & Build

Designed and built a fully custom WordPress site that serves every function HUWA operates: homepage, Speisekarte, Getränkekarte, Events, Reservierung, Karriere, Galerie, Über uns, and Kontakt — a complete digital infrastructure for a multi-faceted hospitality business.
Integrated a live online reservation system directly into the site, removing friction from the most important conversion point for a restaurant.
Built the "Epic Escape" experience as a dedicated standalone page, giving this distinct offering its own conversion path separate from the core venue.
Delivered a mobile-first, responsive build — essential for a hospitality venue where the majority of searches and booking decisions happen on a phone, often while out in the city.

SEO Foundation

Conducted a full on-page SEO setup across every page: structured meta titles, meta descriptions, heading hierarchy, and semantic markup aligned to how locals actually search for cafés, bars, and restaurants in Leipzig.
Connected and verified Google Search Console, giving HUWA a direct line into how Google indexes the site and a baseline to track organic performance going forward.
Structured the site's URL architecture and internal linking to ensure every page — from the food menu to the careers section — carries appropriate search equity and is crawlable without friction.
Implemented local SEO signals throughout the site to support visibility in Leipzig-specific searches and Google Maps placement — critical for walk-in and discovery traffic.

The Result

HUWA launched with a website that finally matched the quality and character of the venue itself — fully structured, conversion-ready, and built on a clean SEO foundation that gives organic growth somewhere to compound from. The online reservation system alone eliminated a conversion barrier that had existed since the venue opened its digital presence. Every page has a purpose, every offering has its own space, and search engines now have everything they need to understand and surface the business accurately.
